National Women's Health Week

Take these Steps to Build Your Foundation of Good Health

The Office for Women's Health (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services) has established the below steps that build a foundation of good health:

  1. Visit your health care provider for a well-woman visit (checkup), preventive screenings, and vaccines.
  2. Get active.
  3. Eat healthy.
  4. Pay attention to mental health, including getting enough sleep and managing stress.
  5. Practice safe behaviors, such as quitting smoking, not texting while driving, and taking steps to protect yourself from sexually transmitted infections

Overwhelmed with Working on Health Goals?...

Let's "Mini" Size Them!

Sometimes, working toward a large and generalized health goal like "getting healthy" can feel overwhelming because you may feel like there's so much you need to work on or change.  Remember, setting simple wellness steps or "mini" health goals can be helpful with getting to that larger goal of a healthier you!

Now, let's look at some examples of "mini" goals to work toward each of the steps listed above.

(1.)  Call our practice at 703-858-3230 to schedule your annual/well woman visit (or to simply see when your next appointment is due).

(2.) Try parking in a parking space on the far end of the parking lot (as opposed to the closest space to where you need to go)  so you get more steps into your day.

(3.)  Add a fruit and vegetable into each day as snacks in place of times you typically might snack on processed food.

(4.)  While lying in bed before falling asleep each night, allow yourself to listen to relaxing music and practice deep relaxation breathing.

(5.)  Activate the "Do Not Disturb While Driving" setting on your cell phone so that you have less distractions while driving.

SUCCESS with Meeting Health Goals!

There's nothing more satisfying than to know you've accomplished meeting your "mini" health goals for the week.  Once they have been met, you are ready to set new "mini" goals to add to your lifestyle for the new week so that you will soon have a great foundation of health established for yourself!!
